When we have a new patient that comes into the office, first of all we want to find out if they're having any immediate issues. If they're in pain we want to figure out what their pain is all about so that we can address that first. If they're not having any pain, the way we do that is we gather the data that we need and then basically they will see me on a first time basis. I will do an exam and determine between the patient and myself what their needs are and where do we go from there. On occasion, they'll see the hygienist first but generally as a role they will see me first.

Why are you supposed to visit the dentist every six months? Can’t you get your teeth clean with brushing and flossing? Yes, but not clean enough. Despite taking care of your teeth, decay and gum disease can still spread. Over time, that can lead to bleeding gums, loose teeth, and worse. That’s because people don’t have the expensive tools and training to clean teeth as thoroughly as your dentist can. Besides, it’s easier to look into someone else’s mouth than your own. At Hillcrest Family Dentistry, we have general dentistry procedures needed for thorough dental cleanings and dental exams and can spot any big problems while they’re still small and easy to fix.

Thorough Dental Cleanings

Our dental cleanings usually include removing any plaque or tartar that has built up since your last visit. Fluoride treatments and varnishes are often done to strengthen your teeth and correct any miniscule damage, especially with our younger patients. When you are done with one of our regular appointments, your teeth will never have felt so clean!

Thorough Dental Exams

Cleaning your teeth is all well and good, but you need regular dental exams to make sure no major issues are secretly festering. We will take digital X-rays to see if there are any cavities that need our attention as well as to make sure your teeth are all healthy and strong. Dr. Vareldzis goes over each set of X-rays himself and will share the results with you. If necessary, we can use 3D scanning technology to make a complete image of your teeth.

While your teeth are definitely the focus of such exams, we also take time to examine your gums for any sign of infection or gum disease. By having that spotted and identified early on, you can save a lot of time and money down the road. We also use VELscope Oral Assessment System to look for any spots inside of your mouth that may be cancerous. And because your teeth are part of your jaw, we can even look for signs of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues.

Dr. Vareldzis believes in giving a complete and honest diagnosis. That way, you have the knowledge necessary to be active in your dental care. He will also explain all the treatment options available so you can work together and pick the treatment that’s right for you.

Your First Visit

If you are new to Hillcrest Family Dentistry, your visit will begin by checking you in and making sure your paperwork is in order. To speed this up, you can download our new patient forms and complete them before you come by. Then, our team will help clean and examine your teeth before Dr. Vareldzis sits down to discuss the results and work out a dental treatment plan with you.

We are a family dental office, so we welcome you to bring your children in for their first visit. We have the training, warmth, and care needed to make that important first visit both enjoyable and stress-free.

Dr. Vareldzis and his team of dental professionals can not only give you an amazingly clean mouth, but they can also spot issues while still small enough to treat quickly and affordably.
